The wildfires are on the other side of the mountain range and the wind blows the smoke over into the desert areas. This usually makes for some interesting and smelly sunsets.
Update: I'm just adding more wildfire related photos as I take them. The fire is BIG and the photo opportunities keep presenting themselves.
